Bobcat tracks?

Post by 1Shooter »

Here's a couple pictures of some tracks I cut this afternoon while setting traps and scouting. I'm in Brookings, SD. Eastriver, where I don't believe there's any kind of season for bobcats. There has been quite a bit of fog around, making for some crazy whore frost (the large amounts of frost that forms on tree branches after fog and freezing weather). The tracks looked pretty fresh, as only the whore frost had covered them partially. Sorry if they're hard to see, I did the best I could to take decent pictures with my phone. I used a yogurt container with aluminum foil over the top (used this for my tuna/bacon grease coon lure container) as a comparison, and they were pretty much the same size. What do you guys think?

Also, I came across this scat. What do you think it's from?

Make sure that you keep that SCAT!!!! I have been told that cats are easy to catch once you can properly read the sign, but there is a huge learning curve in understanding there sign. If you find a toiletry (sp) you found yourself a gold mine!! Set and Collect :D

I should KEEP it?! In what way do you mean this...remember where it was that I found it or literally put it in a bag and keep it for some purpose? I know nothing about bobcats except that it's one of my dreams to someday trap/snare and hunt them.

Coyote scat is used on a lot of sets and sometimes is the only thing used. I dont know about bobcat scat, but a couple of trappers on here carry a container with them and pick up any scat that is half fresh and use it at there sets.

I think I get it...use it as a kind of lure. I'll have to go back to that place tomorrow on my trap check and pick it up. Just can't decide if it's bobcat or coyote. There wasn't much hair in it like in a coyote's, but the shape was probably more like a coyote's, at least from what I've found online.
