Thanks guys! Nope, that's a Yancy dp. I was able to pick up 15 of them at a convention here a month or two ago. In my opinion they're a great trap! The fur on the fox is pretty good, but the hide is still blue :( if I sent it in to get tanned, would the fur slip?

If you send the fox in to be tanned, it will not slip, because the hide is blue. If it is not properly put up or taken care, then it will slip.

The Yancy DP trap is used by some guys that put up a fair amount of coon in a year. The only problem i have with them is that they require a tool to set them. I bought a half a dozen alcatraz DP traps and i absolutely love the design of the trap, but need to get a coon in one before i make any claims to them.

I was able to make a spare setter out of a $3.00 caulk gun, so to me the whole setter thing isn't that big of a deal. I've heard that springs on the alcatraz can be kind of weak? What do you think Chris?

The springs are weak for a reason on the alcatraz trap. The concept of the trap is pure physics and not spring strength. They are almost the exact same design as the coon cuff. I can set them with one finger, but when they go off and grab your knuckle, your not going to pull out. The harder the animal pulls the tighter the door closes on there wrist. i will be bringing one to the williston hunt to show people who are interested. The bad side of them, is the stake system i dont think will work in hard dry soils. This is where the new Duke DP or the Yancy DP trap will shine above the alcatraz. For my soils it works great. If i were to put this trap on a hard soiled area, i would add a lock of some sort to the back door so they aren't allowed to open it, and lay it on the ground.

I dont know if you realized this, but you just potentially saved that farmer thousands of dollars in feed!!! The coon never hit the same spot when they tear into a silage or high moisture corn bag. one small hole will spoil a bag several feet each direction. The ADC work i did this early fall i think paid off for the farmer, cause he called me yesterday and said this is the first time he has never had to tape a bad shut from coon tearing into them. Congrats on the coon!!!!
