Vinegar?

Post by EO caller »

I heard about using white vinegar to clean really rusty traps. They soak them for a couple of days then wire brush them. let them dry and get a small amount of rust back on them then boil and dye. Anybody else doing this? Vinegar is pretty stinky. I would be spooky about doing it on coyote traps. But maybe you guys know better.

Works good.

Make sure to pressure wash em after to get the vinegar off. They'll have a nice light coat of rust after but if you leave the vinegar on they'll rust up real heavy real quick.

Also dont leave em in the vinegar to long as it will etch metal and weaken springs. I put real rusty traps in a five gallon bucket with 1 gal of vinegar and topped off with water. 2-4 days in here and even bad scaly rust almost falls right off leaving almost new looking traps.

yep it'll work pretty quickly and does a nice job. But don't do it to long or to often.
