2009 VHA Calling Contest Results

Post by Jeff Rheborg »

We had 52 teams enter this past weekend with only 12 coming in with zero. Had 142 coyotes checked in, so all in all it was a great day for calling. You needed to have a pickup load of coyotes this year to even get to the top five.

1st place - Bob Stalley/Austin Early - 9 coyotes, 270.6 lbs
2nd place - Roger Schofield/Kent Lewis - 9 coyotes, 265.4 lbs
3rd place - Earl Hipke/Marty Neilan - 9 coyotes, 230.0 lbs
4th place - Spencer Cordes/Andy Moon - 8 coyotes, 232.8 lbs
5th place - John Griswold/Sam Stoddard - 7 coyotes, 202.4 lbs

Big Dog - Cordes/Moon - 40.4 lbs
Little Dog - Jess Dennis/Kenneth West - 17.0 lbs

We will get pics up as soon as we can.

Thanks to all that participated!!!! Hope to see you all this weekend for the video contest.

Yes it was ideal conditionns for most of the day, those hunting north of town had wind issues in the midafternoon. The weather before the tournament was cold and windy and not letting up til the night before. The coyotes had been hunkered down for three days and were ready to play.

The teams that got into them hunted for the most part north and west of town most 50-100 miles out, a few a bit farther, out of boats on the river up north to the reservations both north and south.

One thing about this tournament, I have since 03 been the JUDGE LOL!!! not a real big deal, let me tell ya!! But it goes a smooth and as fairly as I have ever seen a calling contest go. Jeff may remember an issue but i don't ever remember an arguement or a disputed coyote or coyotes in this deal.

The first year i remember a guy bringing in a coyote with a snare still on it and couldn't wait to tell me how it was on it when he shot it and he left it there to show us. It just dam near runs itself at weigh in and even the pictures of each group and their coyotes doesn't slow it down.

Jeff and the whole VHA staff just cowboy up and get it done. It has always been a pleasure to be associated and a member of this organization and they can be very proud of this event.

WELL DONE

soudns like a fun one to be in, using boats to get into roadless areas sounds neat!! This years tournament season sure is getting off to a great start with lots being harvested ("SHOT") and the weather is soooo different than last years season of getting stuck, 30 plus mph winds etc,etc....hats off to you guys on a great tourny
