I was going to give the factory ammo a try but at nearly $40 a box for 20 rounds I am going to pass. They were going to load up some rounds and run them through to see if they were having the same problem. I did have the same problem with the first round of loads I worked up, as I did with the back loads. I even ran the last 5 rounds through 1 gr. over the max load to see if that would help with ejecting the brass. no change what so ever. pretty consistant through all 6 different loads I have tried with the 105 gr. berger bullets. about 30% stovepipe.

Coyotehunter, I went to a 243 WSSM this year and sold the ridiculously heavy 25-06 for a lighter gun for easier carrying. I am loading 87 grain Berger VLD's with 45 grains of H4831 out of a 1:10 twist barrel. I messed around with IMR 4350, Varget, H4350, and this is the best load I found for my gun. I know you mentioned the AR has a 1:8 twist so I would think the 105 VLDs would be a tack driver if you can find the right powder and weight. Have you found a good load for it? I am curious as the OA 243 WSSM would be of interest for me for a tournament gun.

Well finally making some progress on the gun again. Just got the scope back from Leupold and found some issues. On my Vari-X II they ended up reworking the erector system, reworked the Adjutable Objective, replaced the adjustment windage and replaced the adjustment elevation. So maybe it will group now. Olympic also reworked the gas porting on my AR. Picked up a single rail riser today and installed the scope but forgot to get some Ramshot Magnum powder. Brian Schootz from Olympic worked up a load for the 105's using 52 gr. of Magnum powder with good results. He said he was getting 3100 fps so I am goin to give that a try.

Well still have some cycling problems with the gun. Was at the range three days this week and tried 2 different bullets. Been shooting the Berger 105's and the Sierra 100 gr. BTSP. Shot over the chroneograph with the 100 and getting around 3100 FPS. I will be sending the gun back to Olympic again and see if they can figure out the cycling problem. To me it seems it has something to do with the Ultra Mag clip. A full stacked mag 5 rounds and I have problems, with only 3 in the mag I have almost no problems. I will keep you posted.

When I had my AR I had feeding problems with some of the after market mag.s. Some would'nt work hardly at all and some I found I needed to bend the fingers on the top of the mag. in or out just a tadd. with a pliers.

The Mags made for the UltraMag series of guns by Olympic are custom built by Olympic. $110 a piece for a 5 round mag. I think they are going to have to tweek it. Pretty heavy duty looking unit. I ttok it to the UPS shipper in town here and they told me they can no longer ship guns. So now I have to pay extra for a pick up at my house.

Any updates on this? I'm very interested to hear what results you achieved. I have a 1 in 8 twist 243 wssm and am interested in shooting either 95 or 105 berger VLD's in cunjuction with the UMAR lower.

I realize this is an old thread, but I recently picked up an Oly 243 wssm rifle and was wondering what updates you can offer at this point. Are you still having cycling issues? If not what cured the problem?

shot it a bit in july (way to f'n hot) and did not have any problems with the first load. 100 gr. sierra BTHP but the second load was from a friend and I have no idea what the load was.........I just wanted the brass. that second load did not cycle at all. I am having to load pretty hot to get things cycling thru. what twist are you shooting and what wt. bullet?

Just picked up this complete package at the LGS for $500. Fairly sure it is a 1:10 twist as it isn't marked other than SUM 243 WSSM.

Image

Haven't had a chance to take it out yet, but this is the only ammo I have as I haven't picked up the dies to reload yet. How does this ammo perform?
