Like it or not

I have been playing around trying different things this year with putting up my fur, and well this is somethig that guys do with cats called a "nevada style" stretch. the one thing i do different, is i didn't pull the feet together in the belly region. They pin the legs forward and back feet together on a cat to make the belly look longer. I pinned the legs forward on the coyote pelt to see if it would make the white belly look bigger and longer. So what do you think? Bilieve it or not, both of these coyotes are form minnesota. When i saw the one of the left, i could of sworn it came all the way from norht dakota

I like the traditional style the best. The pointed nosed coyotes look more nat. to me :) Never left that much front leg before only half an inch to a inch, just enough to cover the hole, all the longer legs do is get caught on each other and can tear on the creases. guess it depends on the buyer but I do know when when gradeing piles of them its nice to have the legs off or folded toward the chin,Hated when the legs stuck straight out more than an inch, Because if you watch someone gradeing fur, always shaking it,back brushing with thier hands and grabbing the tail and moving it across the table rapidly nose to tail, those front feet can make it bulge and look odd..If not folded.. Do you tumble them after they are dry it sure make them prettier :D

Dusty told me to cut the front legs off last year, they just get in the way.

I just cut the legs off at the knee joint and leave them inside the hide when I turn them.
My brother in-law does it the fancey way and also takes the carthridge out of the ears and pins back..
I asked my fur buyer about this and he said if you want to do it that way its fine but won't get you anymore money, at least from him.

Well, I got $35 a piece for those two MN coyotes from Dusty. I doubt the legs made a difference though. I got $35 when he said he was paying $35 for top coyotes at the time. After reviewing and researching how guys are doing their coyotes that are sent to NAFA, i noticed that a lot of them leave the legs tucked in. They said they do this because when the fur is tumbled, and the legs are out, they have had their pelts go from a nice heavy, to a slight damaged. They were saying the legs were tearing in the belly region where it is thin. I personally would prefer to leave the legs tucked in for the simple fact i dont have to turn them.

Chris they would prefer them left in, the stack better etc. just make sure the armpit gets dry before you turn them it can spoil there, ask Rheborg!

Thanks for the insight randy! I would think a good dose of borax on the arm pit/leg area would help prevent that :D

On coyotes i always left just enough to cover the hole so it looks like a nice uniform belly, cats on the other hand i leave it and either pin them up like you did or put hangers in them and have them out to the side to show of the spots.

Borax the miracle drug, also lightens up Cats to make them look prettier belly wise, a side cutter to remove teats and a dab of moisturizer on titty females that are not so stained another tip.

Brad you got it right save every inch of hide you can that has spots, skin them legs all the way down to the toenails. How's your thaw going, we got rain this a.m. not much, snow mostly gone but muddy. Got a open house at one of my small towns this p.m. and into the evening. Got to get out of the camo for a day and get prettied up if that's possible, no one will know me!! Do you guys have our pilots dad flying for you? Boy if so we really like his son here he does a hell of a job along with his gunner, he's been going way above and beyond servicing the whole state with one plane.

You tell his dad from all of us over here that he is one helluva pilot hunter etc and we are lucky to have him.

Chris another tip, fabric softner in the rinse water when washing hides really makes shine etc. and dish soap when washing coons will help get the leather whiter on some of those blue early coons.
