I have never dressed one out but there is a small market for them. Last year the fur buyer in Dickinson was giving between $3 and $5 for porcupine carcasses depending upon size.

The guard hairs are worth anywhere from $10 - $20 an ounce. you can just pluck them out. Takes just a couple of minutes.

How many ounces would one get from a typical porcupine then? Where would people want to buy this at?

You can get a ounce or so off of a big adult. Not quills, but the long guard hairs. Take a good look a the high end paint brushes.

Try finding a buyer in Eastern Montana or Western North Dakota. Kieth bought mine last year in Dickinson.

You know I did not even weigh what I sold. I probably had a couple of ounces and sold it for about $10. I was just trying to unload the little that I had. I was told that the porcupines in Minnesota did not have the long guard hairs that they are looking for so I did not save much. the little I did have came from western North Dakota. I think if you did get a gallon zip lock bag full I would certainly get on the phone and call around to get the best offer.

Porcupine hiar

If any one wants to get rid of their porkies I would be more than happy to purchase them. I offer upwards of $10.00 a piece depending on hair length and size. E-mail me and we can work something out. I live in glendive so eastern montana and western north dakota travel is not a problem. e-mail me and we can work something out. I usually like to get a couple hundred a year and this year is pretty slow.
