+1 on the Song Dog!! I use to use the hot dog, well its now sitting somewhere in my closet collecting dust! I do use the lil dog, I personally love that call, it my bread and butter when it comes to distress sounds. When I need to howl, I use the Song Dog, It makes such sweet music

i have only used one call out of all the calls that i have this year and it was the song dog. All the coyotes i have called in this year were with the song dog. I used tweety when levi and i did some group howls to sound like a different animal so i guess i used another call a few times. all in all you can't go wrong with the song dog

Song Dog and Red desert Howler for me. The Hot Dog to me is real similiar to the Red Desert but has a "Plastic Sound" i guess would be the best way to describe it. The Red desert just makes a lot richer sounding howl.
But by all means if you can make it sound good use it everyone blows them different and gets a different sound.

I like that Quote!! I think everyone gets all worked up with which call everyone else is is using! If you have a call that works for you, then use it till your blue in the face!!Prairie Ghost wrote:But by all means if you can make it sound good use it everyone blows them different and gets a different sound.

Every person has a different shaped roof cavity. When the air is presented to the call everyone has a different air presentation. I like to think of it as alot like calling geese with a short reed call. Some guys just have it and some need to really practice.

Re: hot dog
I know I missed this subject when it was hot but I had to give my two cents, I started calling because I saw the first Randy Anderson video but when Primos built the Hot Dog they missed the mark. I doubt Randy even likes it. The lil dog is great and most the other call from Primos are real good. I found a fairly new brand of calls I think, there Carver Calls out of Utah. I have there big dog howler and I like the way it sounds, plus there really pretty calls made out of Coco Bolo wood. I found them on line.

Re: hot dog
Hate to say it fella but pretty is not what i look for in a call You need something that functions when you need it to. Some of the best sounding calls are made ugly for a reason
