Mange in Southdakota

Post by chadrip »

I,ve been hunting around the Eagle Butte area and have not had good luck this year. Two coyotes in four days of hunting.I talked to a couple ranchers and they said that mange came through a couple years ago and it hasn,t been as good as years past.Do you think I should stay put and try harder or try another area?Last year we seen about twenty coyotes a day on the ice eating fish on pressure ridges on the ice.And they were chasing alot of rabbits, but this year we didn,t see the rabbits and not that much ice when we were out there.

I have hunted up there this year and I think the coyote population is down a little bit. I think the same problem up on the Grand River. The ones you do get that don't have mange have excellent pelts. The ranchers aren;t seeing nearly as many as usual. With the snow it will bring out a few more and hopefully kill off some of the mangy ones.
