Owl encounters
I was hit by an owl a few years ago and it was a close call. When calling at night any clever ways to deter birds and not predators?

the more food you have in your mouth at one time, the better you can taste it!!!

Re: Owl encounters
I've never been hit, but I have had them land in a tree I had my back to. The little ones don't bother me(we just call them barn owls around here). I have gotten up and scared off what I'm guessing was a great horned owl a couple times. Just thinking out loud here, would a rabbit decoy help?

It helps to have some sort of backing thats above the height of your head, bushes, tree's, fence posts, gates, ect.
I think in most cases they have picked up yhe movement of a callers hands and thats what they are swooping at, just happens a guys head gets in the way..
