The DNR has already stated that they want a season and they want to have it open up as soon as deer season is closed, late Nov. through Dec. and Jan when the fur is at it best. The state has roughly 3000 wolves and they need to keep the population above 1600 or they go back on the protection list so thats why they are going into this with some caution.. They don't want a free for all but a season with a quota and yes they will be given big-game status as it should be.. They also don't want to have any hunting for them in the wolfs core area which also makes sense and they plan to keep the hunting in Agg. areas and then go from there.. If some of the goals are'nt met then they may widen the range of where they can be hunted or trapped to get the numbers down...

The most recent information that i have on this, is as follows:

quota will be 400 wolves
$4 to apply for a tag
6,000 tags will be released
$50 per tag to purchase

Season will be november 24th through the first week of January.

Obviously this is just preliminary stuff, and you should investigate the hunting regulations handbook for exact dates and numbers.
