A 243 bullet is pretty much 50/50 as far as keeping the hide in one piece. Two guys I hunt with use the Hornady 58 gr. and another the Sierra 60 gr. h.p. with similar results. Keep the bullet in the meaty areas or behind shoulder...

I reload, I shoot 85 grain Nosler Partitions, its a decent bullet if hit right, in and out small holes. I have heard very good things about Berger 69 grain

I have shot a bunch of coyotes with my .243 and use reloads. 100 gr. BTSP Sierra bullets @ 3050 fps, any partition is going to make a mess out of the pelt, especially if you hit bone. That BTSP is made for bigger game and does not fragment when used on coyote.

Slower bullets that don't fragment will always produce less pelt damage

It's old but it works good. The Hornady old lead tipped spritzer at 3400 t0 3500 fps. Shoots pretty flat hits hard but doesn't damage the fur much. I have used it for years. I've tried some of the newer plastic tipped bullets, but they don't seem to be any better and cost quite a bit more. If it's not broke don't fix it.

I have shot the lighter polymer tipped bullets and they just tear things up.
