I agree Chris, Do you have a website that shows this bill trying to be passed or what proof do you have? I have no faith in Obama, we just see this hype when a democrat is elected. The goverment is in no position to be shutting down any company, and spend the millions and billions more dollars to collect eveyones guns. The media and people going off the deep end is to blame for 3/4 of our nations problems right now.

I agree staying in contact with our elected officals, and telling them how we feel is a great idea I highly support it. I also support the NRA, but we cant just all jump over board because of media hype and think eveyone is out to end hunting and take our guns

Who's the heart of the Democratic party? Hard-working, down-home people who wouldn't stand for any gun rights gone. The media & NRA like to push the impression that the democratic consituency is all granola-eaters, but look around your town. Unions. Small business. Who do you think has guns??

There's no way in hell they'd alienate 3/4 of thier constituency. I'd like to see them try.

Here's why i hate 'political'issues on a site.
Wizbang, your definition of the heart of the democratic party is flawed at best.It may be true in certain rural areas yet(western Mn/Ws where you appear to be from),even still in a few populous States such as parts of PA or upstate NY,but its not true overall and far from it.The vast majority don't own guns(certainly not rifles/shotguns anyway),don't hunt, and don't give a damn about these issues.
I serve on a State advisory board dealing with these demographics and related issues.Even here, only 27% of ALL the young will be involved in hunting/shooting/gun ownership and thats near the highest in the nation. Its 1% in California-and less than 5% in almost all populous States.Math doesn't pencil out to a bright future.Action -or inaction-based on flawed facts doesn't help anyone.
Thats all I intend to post on this.

Wow! I hardly believe some of the things I'm reading are written by hunters!
The democratic party has been responsible for EVERY attempted or successful piece of anti gun legislation.
Look it up.
This admin has surpassed every other in the history of our nation in pushing us toward socialism, how many socialist nations have ANY gun rights?
I will do everything I can to find a website with the document that barack hussein stalin himself wrote stating his gun control intentions. This document came to light early in the primaries, but the über liberal media quickly burried it.
I know this all sounds alarmist, but we need to protect what rights we have left, obama wants to take our guns.
It's just that simple.
I'm not going to insult any democrats, they just didn't know any better than to vote for obama, we conservatives didn't do our jobs and help educate them with things like FACTS.
Before anyone starts flaming me, I'm a proud conservative (not republican) tradesman, member of Chicago local 597 pipefitters (that's a union), pro choice, property owning, god loving, AMERICAN.
There, at least anyone who wants to take shots at me for anything I write has all the facts.

it seems as though this thread got away from the main topic but i'll add my 2 cents worth even though. for the MOST part, dem's are against us having guns. for the MOST part, reps are for us having guns. this current dem.addministraition is the worst we've ever had as for those rights.when this ecconomic situation gets settleld, i think (know) we will start seeing anti-gun shit coming on.no, i'm not a ''the sky is falling'' kind of guy and not real knowlegable in politics but i'm nervous as hell obout our future as gun owners. now this thread was about the nra and sorry i stepped out of line on this political crap but i think the nra is still our best bet in our fight for our gun rights. if there was no nra, we'd have been dis-armed long ago!!!!. now here is a ?? would'nt the nra and US rather have a membership of say 15-20 $$ a year and recruit a whole bunch more people including our youth instead of the yearly fees they are charging now (50$) i think, and having much fewer members and pissing most of them off by the constant badgerring for more $$. hell, at say, 15$year, most of us could afford a git subbcription for a kid or 2. as the saying goes,"threres strenght in ##s i just wish the nra would tone down there approach and not be quite so aggresive in it. again, sorry for the ran't, i was going to stat out of all political posts but i felt i had to put my 2 cents worth and hope i did'dt step outa line :| :|

That was pretty well said bucksnbears.
The NRA is our best bet, I'm ok with the membership price, but I understand there are some who have a tougher time with it.
Junk mail and people asking for money absolutely sucks, but at least the NRA does great things with the money we give them.
After all what's the better investment, a couple new DVDs or our gun rights being protected?

Ok Chris first of all I agree completely about starting over, that's what our founding fathers said we needed periodically.
Second, The NRA keeps track of all the anti gun bills.

I did and here's the law's language: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c111:H.R.45:

First off, I'm not sure this thread got away from anyone. Looks to me like we're exactly on topic-- unless your idea of staying on topic includes 35 posts of the same opinion. I'm proud to stir up some discussion-- isn't that why we're here?

Secondly, what's the harm in this legislation if you're law-abiding? Personally, I kinda like the idea of making sure every idiot in the world can't get a gun and give hunters a bad name.

To Dcoy's point about demographics-- sure not everyone owns a gun-- but at least every family has a die-hard hunter in it. Maybe not everyone has a gun-stashing militant with 500 guns. My point is only this: guns for HUNTING are as American as Chevy or Budweiser. Not everyone uses them but there's no way in hell they'd ever leave.

God bless America-- we get to have our opinions. I'm just not going to spend my days freaking out about armegedon. If we lose our guns, we have a whole hell of alot more to worry about-- like food, etc.

ANY new legislation against guns must be stopped.
We already have more than enough gun laws, what makes anyone think that more laws will suddenly make criminals give up their guns? That's stupid.
As far as what guns are ok to restrict, why is it ok to screw with guns that you don't like as long as your gun is ok.
ALL GUN OWNERS MUST STICK TOGETHER.
Someone who has never hunted and never will has just as much right to own a gun as you.

just renewed the wifes renewal for the n.r.a. dicsount was for 25/year. however, i did put a note in there that said if we get anything asking for more $$ it would be canceled. also, i said we did not need the duffel bag as a gift. the n.r.a. can use that money for better things. :|

Love the cause don't like the mail asking for money.

Chris if you haven't gotten the emails with the bill on ammunition tracking/registration that is trying to get passed in 10-12 states you need new friends LOLOLOL.

This adminstration will try to get more gun and ammo laws passed i don't think anyone can argue that. They got voted in its OUR fault.

Wizbang there is people in this world that consider you an "idiot" you can't tell chris he can have a gun and bucksnbears that he can't its just not american. This is the problem people letting the other people of the hunting world get ran over as long as it doesn't affect them.

Join the NRA and use bucksnbears approach.

Remember guys they will have to TAKE your guns are you going to let them?
