CoyoteHunter.net Announces 2012 Luke Oyloe Memorial Coyote Hunt Winners

Despite being a teenager from a small town in North Dakota, Luke Allen Oyloe’s name and good deeds will live on in perpetuity thanks in part to the efforts of CoyoteHunter.net and its director Jamie P. Olson.

Luke tragically passed away at the age of 16 in 2009. The Luke Oyloe Memorial Coyote Hunt was established that year to provide a $1,500 scholarship in his name at the school he attended, Trinity Christian School in Williston.

“Luke was a terrific kid who loved all sports including coyote hunting,” said Olson. “Luke’s tragic passing broke the hearts of everyone in the coyote hunting community and establishing this scholarship in his name seemed like a fitting way for us to honor his memory.”

A total of 41 teams entered this one-day event, home base for which was the Edgar M. Boyd American Legion Post in Williston, ND.

Scholarship winner

A key component of this hunt each year is an educational scholarship awarded to the senior at Trinity Christian School in Williston, ND who submits the winning 1000-word essay about coyote hunting. This year’s winner was Schyler Abuhl. In his essay, Shyler explains that although he had never before been hunting he felt that, “it is often good for a person to expand their knowledge and experience, and so I decided to take on the challenge of learning a little bit about coyote hunting.”

Door prizes

Everyone who participated took home hats and hoodies and quite a few participants also won one of the many door prizes including a flat screen TV. Jason Arnson and Keith Johnsrad won Under Armour® sweatshirts. Zach Aller won a Dan Thompson Howler. An additional nine participants walked away with a cool $100 cash: Jake Geltel, Brent Spooner, Schyler Abuhl, Paul Fiorenza, Chris Dunlavy, Chris Taylor, Tristen Slennin, Jeff Steffan, and Tom Buchmeier. Other door prizes included DPMS hats and shirts; 12 ea. RFA3-PP Black Prairie Panther rifles (223 20" black fluted barrel with carbon fiber hand guards and 2-stage triggers) value at $1239 retail; and two 556 16" pardus barrel assemblies with DPMS exclusive M-111 hand guard systems valued at $950 retail.

Big Dog/Little Dog

The big dog winner was team #5 (Tyler Boots & Jake Geltel) with a coyote weighing in at 37 lbs 13 oz. Team #3 (Justin & Jason Bechtold) produced the smallest dog weighing 12 lbs 11 oz.

Payout for each team was $540.
