first bow-yote

Post by bucksnbears »

last night Denise and i went out bowhunting. we sat in a remote bend in a river. i was watching a 135" buck working its way to Denise. all of a sudden it bolted and stopped right under her at 15 yards. i had a front row seat and was waiting for an arrow to go zipping through the buck. it kept looking behind it so i looked and here comes a big coyote right at me. when it got in my shooting lane, i lipped squeaked and it stops cold and looks right up at me,broadside. i zip an arrow through his chest and he let out a hell of a growl.(Denise heard it from 80 yards away). it ran about 30 yards, stopped a turned back to look at me. it was an awesome sight. he stopped in a spot that a sun beam was hitting and the blood was dripping off him. his whole chest was bright red. he turned back and ran into cover real wobbly. as soon as he got to cover i seen movement from the way he came and here comes another :D barley had time to load another arrow. i drew back and was just getting ready to squek when she stopped for a split second and was smelling the arrow that zipped through its mate. it turned inside out before i could release :( at dark we trailed the blood to the thick cover but as much as i wanted pics of my first bow-yote, i did not wanna go into that cover as thats where the deer bed. i KNOW it was right inside but.... now, we did our compleate scent control routine and both coyotes crossed about 30 yards down wind of her and both came walking down the same trail i came in on. both of them smelled her but neither was alarmed enough to send them running, just a bit nervous. my boots were washed in river water, sprayed down, and baking-soda'ed. neither one seemed to acnoledged i had just walked that trail 45 minutes earlier. they walked my exact trail for about 50 yards. this was a medow with tall grass. and no, she did not shoot the buck. she could'nt get turned withought getting busted. .

Speakings of sling shots I shot a turkey once with one and knocked him out of the tree, Ran over to pick him up and just got him in my hands and the stupid thing came back to. Needless to say the turkey ended up running away and about the only person that believes me on that is the guy that was with me. A picture says a 1,000 words i guess.
Morel of the story is I guess is I sure wouldnt want to see what a coyote could do to you after it came to cause I know that turkey sure had its way with me for a bit. So Prairie Ghost that coyote that you shot with yours consider yourself lucky that it made it to the slough that you wanted to hunt. LOL.
Just to clear things up Bucks. I BELIEVE YOU. :)
