Yote Hunting in CO Mtns...Round #2--Now w/Pics

Post by DirtyDog »

Alrightie gents - as most of you know, I am new to yote chasing. Went out a few wks ago on my first hunt and called my first dog in but missed a long shot at ~500 yards. Round #2 starts Saturday afternoon. Will hopefully get a hunt in Saturday evening and Sunday morning. Full report and pics when I return Sunday night/Monday morning. A dog is gonna die this weekend!

alrightie gents...sorry I didn't post sooner but I hit the mtns then headed down south for temporary duty in AL for a couple weeks. Here we go...got up to the mtns on Saturday afternoon. Weather was "iffy" due to pending snow storm but I headed out anyways. Got there about 1500, set up camp, and headed out for the evening set. A few inches of fresh snow on the ground and overall about 6 inches on the ground.

Hit the same place we hunted a few wks ago and not a single track...nada! But we headed out anyway and did two sets before it got close to dark and the snow and wind really picked up. Here are few pics of some sheep along the road on the way in...the closer we got to the area...the more snow...

Evening set #1

Evening set #2--began snowing heavily and visibility decreased bigtime...headed back to camp for the night
Image

Accomadations for the night...Hilleberg Nallo GT 3 (my AK sheep hunting tent)...snowed all night on and off...not a single peep from yotes all night. Which is odd for this area and past experiences camping, hunting.

not a single track or peep...did a few sets with no luck. Couldn't drive to our normal spots b/c snow was too deep. Buddies Jeep just kept getting stuck...

Plan to get back out several more times this spring. More updates as I get out again in the next couple weeks!

Thanks for the update!! My experiences with fresh deep snow have never been good. They seem to not want to come to the call from a very long distance. The deeper the snow to me, means that i need to get closer to the area before i start calling. Keep at it and your patients will be rewarded :D
