stomach contents

Post by Coyotehunter »

I gutted a male coyote the other day with 13 baby rabbits in his stomach. Are you looking at stomach contents and if so what are you finding?

can't say that i have ever opened the stomach contents of a coyote but i am sure i will do it sooner or later. I feel its a great idea to see what the local coyotes are eating in your hunting area. Its one more thing to add to the arsenal book and better edgucate youself.

I can understand seeing the difference between a grasshopper and a rodent. How do you tell the difference between whether a coyote ate a horse or a sheep? The hair?

Yep the hair is a good place to start. on smaller animals you can usely find a foot or two, tails, teeth....etc.

Antelope hate coyotes, and will chase them any chance they get. You will see dead antelope laying by the dens. They go to the dens to haze the coyotes and just don't know when to leave. They will get to chasing coyotes pups around a den and the adults come in and pull them down. They also decoy the Does away from the fawns and the other coyote will go in and find the hidden fawn. When they are young the coyotes have know problem chasing them down.

kind of like how many guys does it take to screw in a light bulb  I do not know if there is a answer to this question. I am sure one coyote could take down a adult antelope. I have not seen one go down but I have seen several time were one coyote is working on fawns. I have also seen lots of adults dead by dens and would assume in most cases this is a pair of coyotes at work.

I bet a big dominate male would can take down an average size deer!

I am surprised the deer population doesn't take a bigger hit than it really does. I know some areas the deer population is down because of coyotes.
