What are your theories on calling during a full moon. I own a mowing business and did it full time until three years ago and the economy went down hill and had to go back to my trade as a union electrician, but for 6 years when I was mowing, I had from november to march off and never missed a night of hunting unless it was pissing rain. I didnt care if it was raining , or windy or a full moon , I went predator hunting , but Ive only ever called in a coyote one time during a full moon and I started with dad and granpa when I was 8 years old and now 37 and curious why you guys think this may be . I think it has to be more than just they can see you better . Im a 3rd generation predator hunter and know more than my dad and grandpa taught me but that Ide like to learn alot more

Peanut,
I live in the central part of WI and for the most part only hunt at night and always on full moons. This is mostly because of my schedule, that we hunt this way, but I think you have to set up differently on full moon nights vs. day hunting. I try to set up with a buddy 100 yards down wind from me calling as well as try to give the coyote an approach that will require it to come thru an opening to get it's silhouette without using a light. It is definitely more challenging because you can't read the dogs body language to know if it is going to come closer or bolt. Last Thursday, under the full moon, we did 4 sets, called 2 singles and 1 double, but only killed 1 coyote due to low visibility ( and possibly some coyote fever). If you have specific questions, feel free to ask.

I am not much for advice but I have called in a fair number during the full moon. I have barely tried it at night with out a moon. I am going to try it at night with a red light on the shotgun this year. MN has it legal after January 1. Only thing I could say is there may be more hunters out in the area with the full moon and they have adapted to it. Good post.

I used to hunt from 6 in the evening until 6 in the morning and seldom ever didnt make a kill whether it be a red or grey fox or a coyote , but I started to realize the nights of a full moon that I would never even see anything . I also noticed that if were supposed to snow that I would do exceptional , mainly when the weather was going to change. I used to use a miners light and red lens and didnt do as well as I do since I saved enough money to buy a gen 2 night vision rifle scope. It is legal in illinois

i have had more luck calling coyotes in during full moon clear nights with snow on the ground. the full moon makes it easier for them to see you but i think that they are most inclined to come to a call because they area already out moving anyway and have the cover of darkness. making the shots is the hard part.
