Best Scope Magnification For Hunting Coyotes?

My friend and I are just about to receive the custom ordered AR15's we will be using to shoot a lot of paper, but also, specifically, coyotes here in Michigan.

I've read a lot of hunting forums that discuss optics for this purpose. Many of them say all you need (or want) is a 1x4 scope, some others claim a higher magnification range is optimum. My thoughts are that a 2x8 is about all that you could need. I would appreciate your expertise on the subject. Thanks.

For calling open country I like a fixed 10x or a vari. 4-14x.. For hunt & stalk I like to use a 6.5-20X.. Nice thing about a vari. is you can crank the power down or up depending on range you plan to shoot or type of cover... For a good all around setting I'm happy with 10X....

5.5-22x
6-18x

...and in the deep Alabama brush, anything over 2x or open sites is useless. Depends on the environment.
