Minimal caliber for coyote hunting

Post by basshunter »

My son in law wants to join me in here in Arizona for some coyote hunting. What would you say would be the minimal caliber for taking coyotes out to maybe 100yrds.

Been playing around with a straight 17 Rem again a bit.Shot 3 last few days with 2 being bang flops or bang, spin, flops and the 3rd taking an xtra round to quiet down.Shot placement, shot placement, shot placement.
Ditto with a new 204 AR I'm playing with.Careful placement is key.Shooting handloaded 35 bergers appears better than any factory I can find although killed a few with Hornady 'Super' in 40 grain.Tough on brass count though when multiples come in. :D
I can blame Devil Dog for this problem.

I have a DPMS .204 and love shooting it. I also use the 35 gr. berger flat base bullets. My main coyote gun is a Hart barrel 9:1 twist chambered in .22-6MM. 69 GR. BTHP Sierra bullets.
