Scouting

Post by Coyotehunter »

doing a lot of scoiting right now for red fox and coyotes. The red fox will be a problem with the newborn Lambs in about a month. Once we get a docking those Fox don't seem to bother the Sheep as much once thry start getting that 30 plus pound range. Coyotes on the other hand never stop working on the lambs. right up till shipping. Mainly looking for tracks and Scat right now. S Setting up equipment on them with snares and traps. neen dping some calling but very limited for the next couple of weeks.

IMO the scouting should of been done when you had snow on the ground. Red fox with smaller terr. makes it easier to figure them out. Coyotes on the other hand would take a little more work.. Curious to what they do to there pred. out that way to have them feed on sheep. Prey base in short supply or a lot of pressure on the pred. to force them to grab what they can get. (easy meal) ???

Mostly lambs, some ewes occasionally but the lambs can really get hard during denning. Especially later in the pupping season. Same goes for the fox, just not as big of a issue with them after docking mid June. Everything is different out here as far as pressure, food, densities.........Huge ranches, zero public access, and really not much pressure for food. Rabbits and small rodents in endless supply.
