It seems as though this has gotten blown way out of proportion. In my first two posts of the topic, all I was asking was why lyonch advised what he did when it came to howling, and that I didn't think it was fair to word it the way he did. I agreed with him on that Dirty Dog was better off going with a distress, and why, and also stated that maybe I took it wrong. If you read the posts thru you will see that.

Then here comes the defense before lyonch can even explain, which he did, and cleared it up. And I knew what he was saying, just thought it could be put different, a way so that all beginners, as well as Dirty Dog, that see this, would understand why.

LeviM-I have posted thoughts, comments Etc, although not on this topic, since it kinda got off track. "Please post all your knowledge you think you have"- Pretty sure I have never made that claim here, or anywhere. Good sarcastic statement.
I don't have a problem with lyonch, just asking a question(s), and commenting on his comments, and since I don't completely agree with what he said on specific topics, according to you I have a problem with him. Anyway!!!!
I have never knowingly met you, have never hunted a coyotehunter.net tourney, as it has never worked out.
As far as experience, not sure how you judge that, without the possibility of someone thinking you are chest pounding, which I don't need to do, I just enjoy being out hunting, and talking predators. I can say that I make my fair share of stands , and kill a decent number of coyotes each year, accordingly. I have been calling approx 20yrs.
Actually, TA and EOCaller both stated that howling can possibly be used this time of year, but maybe not the best option, in which I have already agreed.
And your experience, LeviM, if you look back at some of the first posts, only a meager 3-4 yrs ago, you're on here telling how you are just a beginner etc., and have lots to learn. So how do you judge experience?

Bucks-Absolutely, there is a lot of GREAT info here. And I am always looking forward to the next story, advice, etc that is posted. I didn't believe that there was harm intended, as stated earlier, but to a beginner reading this post and see that advice, might shy a guy away from joining up with this great sport of predator hunting. Maybe/Maybe not.

Didn't mean to rile the post, but I guess if a guy can't ask the moderator a question, without catching grief, my bad! I apoligize!!!!

223sav, I dont think the fact you ask lyonch a question was the problem, it was how the question was stated. If you were just looking for a clarification, why didnt you just ask for a clarification on his further post instead of posting a smart ass remark. Please post your 20+ years of experience on the site, instead of taking a shot at someone else who tried to help. Please dont be affraid, to give out any "atta boys" yoursef, I have yet to see you congratulate anyone, but bitched about, a select few on the site only giving other select few there props. Please, all I am asking is practice what your preaching!!!

Time to drop it, its been cleared up by lyonch and beat to death. Lets all get back to help dirtydog get his first. I have yet to post on this subject in hand because I have no experience calling the mountains of Colorado. I am sure dirtydog has heard all the basic advice there is, I just dont have any first hand experience calling his area. The only advice I can give is stay patient, always keep the wind to your advantage, and MAKE your shots. Good luck and please keep us posted.

WOW!!!!! Any way, I am starting a new topic after this post so any one interested can check it out.

DirtyDog, I have some family that has a place down around Lamar. I'll be back in Colorado this spring for about ten days maybe we could take my dogs and go get a den and I can help you with my limited knowledge on howls.
Where are those pictures from? It makes me miss Elk hunting on the Flat Tops.

LeviM- Read the very first post, or first two for that matter, "why would you tell Dirty Dog to keep his howler in his pocket just because he hasn't shot a coyote. Have you heard him howl?", was just asking a question. And before lyonch could come back and clarify, the post was riled and got out of line.
Since you are kind a being a smartass, I actually said approx 20yrs, not 20+, so quit trying to make it sound like I am saying I know it all, cause I damn sure don't and never claimed to, and they are just going out and having fun calling, not ADC or professional work. Anyway, I will be done here.

holy crap you guys. Seriously, no one wants to read all this bickering............he said she said..........Good rule of thumb if you would not say it to the guy at the table you are having a beer with then don't say it here. I don't care if I have 2 guys on this site or tens of thousands. I want coyote crazy hunters that want to share ideas and ask questions about anything concerning coyotes with out some school yard rock throwing. I new guy comes on here posts some great pics and great questions and it turns in to a bunch of bitching on how some one said something. Try not to be so damn sensitive, read between the lines and assume no harm was meant. Don't get on here looking for a argument. Tons of sites with a bunch of guys argueing and chest pounding to choose from out there.

alrightie...the blue dots represent where the sorry dog appeared and walked to the right. The red dot is where/when he stopped and looked our way. He prolly stopped there for 2 minutes. I shoulda taken a shot then!

after jackin' around and finally deciding to take a shot he began to walk up and under the spruce tree. I took a moving shot when he walked into the red spot. "
"Swing and a miss!"

There are dog/fox tracks all over this place. No one is hunting it and there is some private land neigboring the area with cattle.

Dirtydog after looking at your first picture, i did some editing to show you how i would personally set this up with two guys. Remember this is just an opinion and there are always a million ways to set a scenario up. From what i can see in the picture, i would place the person on the red dots, where they can see just over the hill. They should be paying close attention to the areas left and right of them that i have drawn with a blue line. I would face the direction of the arrow pointing. i hope this helps. i would also place the "foxpro" if you have one in between both of you on the edge of the hill as well. If you are using hand calls, the wind direction would determine who was calling. If the wind was right to left of the picture, i would have the guy on the right call and the guy on the left watch the down wind side.

looks like some great areas...kinda neat to look at this area and get "IMO" input on where to set up :D I was thinking some where between the red dots (just to be over that rise a bit) :D NOW I know there are way to many factors about"THE SPOT" But could be fun to see what others think w/o over analyzing it

Dirtydog, what direction was the wind blowing in the picture i quoted? I will edit the pic showing you where i would have set up in my opinion. Sometimes, it's the small things that make all the difference  Now lets get you that first coyote!!!! :D
