Dusty, tell Larry to loosen up that wallet of his. Do you know a Russel Schmidt? I am getting a dog from him in a few weeks.

My father in law shot a nice fox while pheasant hunting this past week. He sold that one to Voight in Mandan on the carcass and got 10 bucks for it. He said he is fine with that. It will buy him a few boxes of pheasant shells.

Never take his offer if he doesn't want to pay what you think they are worth then just load up your fur and leave a lot of times things change when you start loading up the fur!

I agree 100% with you prairieghost. You put in the time and the effort to get the yote you might as well get a reasonable price for it!

You saw my furs hanging in my garage. What should I expect do you think? I am going to the buyer on Wednesday in Downer, MN? PM me what you would be happy with for a price on the pelts I had.

Gradeing furs: Take youre finished hides and lay them side by side. Look for the coyote that has the thickest under fur that is also long from top to bottom. Some what uniform in length. Once you picked out the best one then compare it to the others, hopefully the one you picked was good to begin with. When looking at shoulder area is the fur almost as long as the sides? Is the back fur long and also thick? Is the back of neck area rubbed from going under fence or into a pipe? How do the hips look at the bottom of hide are they uniform with rest of fur? Does the fur show the begging stages of mange, dull wet look to it, should be shiney and the fur fluffy.. Pick out the worst looking hide and lay off to one side and then compare the rest to the best one and worst..Place in order of condition of fur.. There! you just graded youre fur, remember you have to be honest with youreself. Would you want a fur coat made out of the top furs you selected? Does the hide have a bullet hole in it? If so deduct atleast 5.00 from it or move it down two grades. This will give you a rough idea of what youre fur is worth and why you get less money for some. If needed i can post some pic's on graded fur to give you a visual of what to look for.. good hunting.. T.A.

I agree i try to grade my furs before selling so i know what to expect. Everyone has their own opinon in showing best furs first or worst fur. I have tried both and it really didn't make much difference. I think i like showing the best first so they get a routine of looking at good furs and don't look at the rest (after the first 5) as tough.

I was talking with Les Johnson and he prefers to keep the 10 best furs in the truck until the price for his best pelts has been given. Then he reaches in the the truck and to quote him says "then these 10 should be worth 5-10 more a piece right?" Everyone does it different but there is some poker face and strategy if your dealing with a lot of furs and a 2$ increase in your average addes up quick. I never had enough pelts to really start dickering over the average being a dollar or two short.

Blaine Eddie has a great video that goes over all this info. I would sell it if I could find Blaine. I used to talk with him now and again but I lost track of him. Years ago he used to post on the site. Great guy. Must see!!
