Mountain Lion Calling???

Post by Dusty »

Hello fellow predator hunters. I live in western north dakota and I am attempting to call in mountain lions. If anyone could give me some pointers as to how to do this, that would be great.

Well I have tried a few different times now. So far i haven't seen anything, not even a coyote. I guess this is common if their alot of cats around. I called in the same area about three times for about 2 hours each. I need to work on staying longer. The call I have been using is a deer in distress, I figure this is my best call since the local ranchers have noticed the deer population decrease. I'm not sure if i'm calling to long or not enough. This is all trial and error. Let me know if anyone has some suggestions. I also tried for coyotes this morning had 2 come jogging in only to lose sight of them as they were closing in on me. They never showed up again....Sneaky buggers

There is 2 zones. Zone 1 is in the southwest corner of the state (badlands mainly). There the limit is 5 total lions. The rest of the state is another zone and it is UNLIMITED until a certain date. The reason I heard is that the ones in the badlands zone are breeding populations and the ones shot out of that zone have been found to be ones just moving through, so there is no limit. You can find full details on the G and F site.

Levi if you saw one it would make you nervous and you would run like a girl  I hope im with when you come across one cause that would be one intense moment having a predator of that caliber sneeking up behind us.

A second Mountain Lion has been killed. You know this is really starting to tick me off. It was killed by someone driving down a gravel road who happend to see it, then shot it. Meanwhile i was out on sat calling for 4 and a half hours. Sry just felt like venting
