I'm excited to say the least! I have some empty wall space that would sure look great with a big wolf pelt hanging on it.

A good start but the devil is in the details.Among other concerns are statements from the announcement such as
'how many permits to issue' ; 'findings are that the population hasn't changed significantly since 1998' ; 'permits to be issued by lottery' and on and on.

Does anyone believe the population hasn't changed since 1998? in 12 years? Not good to start with that premise. :(

I'm with Dcoy. There are still many ways this can turn to shit in our hands. Good news nontheless.

I for one would rather wolf and deer firearms didn't run at the same time. I'm not a fan of the orange army.

Also, are we going to be allowed to poke fun at the ND guys that want to come over and hunt wolves with the 'sota crackers'? This could be fun.

have a good one

The population has been holding pretty steady, but has gone through some hard times with pups not makeing it to adults..
Also Wildlife services has been takeing care of the bad wolves and kill over a 100 per year. But now they are out of the picture and is now up to the state and its hunters to keep the numbers in check.... Glad to here the deer hunters are out of the picture as well which should make hunting more enjoyable again...
Hopefully the deer leases have enough sense to unlock there gates for wolf hunting, if not well thats there problem then...

Tim,
I don't put much faith in the 'studies' nor in the Mn DNR.(to my knowledge there hasn't even been a study in 5 years). The vast majority of DNR personel on the ground are great but in St Paul???Well not so great.I dealt with them on hunting and fishing issues of various sorts for 30 years and have watched the Dept morph into a bloated bureacracy occupying floor after floor of people more tuned to politics than nature.(probably more employees in one building there than in NoDak and SoDak Depts combined)Would bet my life that if they had an internal vote for or against hunting the wolves, there would be no season at all.Internally its a politically sensitive and shrewd group that has a self serving agenda to keep itself safe and....well,I'll stop.
My bet is that knowing the strong feelings 'out there' on a wolf season, there will be one but it will be a convoluted lottery type deal that is nearly guranteed to keep the harvest small. It also will be during deer season and will include deer hunters.I hope I'm wrong but....
Structuring it as part of the 'small game' season is interesting though.I'm curious about the motivation/reasoning behind that.Hard to believe they aren't cashing in on another 'big game' fee opportunity.A damn good thing for me personally though since I bought a 'lifetime' small game and archery license before I got the hell out of there and therefore will be in the 'mix' for any preferential 'res vs non-res' issue that may arise.

Maybe I'm wrong. This zone thing might make sense.'Might'.
Bucks may be hunting soon in his 'zone' cause I'm sure he'll find them 'threatening' something.
