Hard to feel anything when your stareing down the barrel at a big O'lcoyote.

Those of you who have the Carlson's Dead Coyote choke tube, you are NOT supposed to shoot steel through it right? I also picked up some Dead Coyote shells for patterning later this spring. Spendy buggers but what the hell? Are the Hevi Shot shells that you can use for geese, are those steel or some other non toxic shot?

I believe hevi-shot is copper platted shot, but I am not 100% sure!

10 Gauge Remington and Browning Auto. Patternmaster chokes. 3 slit BPD-10 wads. Use #1buck,#4buck and 000. No problem here with the weight in shotguns. You would have to see it to believe the patterns from the 000. Hevi-shot is about 180$ for 7# if you handload your own. 00 Hevi-shot is the biggest I have ever seen for sale to the handloader but the price on that is scary expensive. There is a new ITX shot that may be avaliable in 00 next year. I have been playing with different sizes to cover the 50-100 yard range. 000 is big but it holds it's pattern well. I wish I had more experience on field testing.

12 gauge. 3" copper plated/buffered lead BB through a carlsons extended full. Ive shot half a dozen this year with some 3" 4-buck this year, havent ever patterned it, but it seems to do the job as well. Only had to shoot one a second time.

Heavy shot in larger sizes is not copper plated it is a mixer of tungston and other metals, it is very hard the reason you can use it in the carlson tube is the wad hevi uses surrounding the shot, steel uses too light weight /thinner wad and in bigger shot sizes would cause wear to choke tube.

The hevi coyote and hevi goose B (a liitle cheaper and offers rebates at times) are good coyote loads and pattern well from the carlson tube but so does #4 buck you will see some increased range from the hevi over the buck though, one needs to weigh out price differance. The chineese have been keeping the tungston market high.

The dead coyote T" is made from compressing a powdered mix under high pressure the rest are molten metal I believe. The reason is trying to keep there shape when you step up in size.

I've been carrying 3" T in "Dead Coyote" shooting out of a 870 Rem Wingmaster w/fixed full (hand me down from my great uncle) has a 30" barrel, sadly I have not been able to harvest one with it yet :?

But this spring we were on a snow goose hunt over decs and anything between 60-80yards was coming down dead :D Awfull expensive geese, but the young guys I was with sure got a kick out of it. Good thing only had 20 shells with that day. We shot ALOT of shells. Heck I took a case of BB's and was out by noon went to a local town in the farm store and bought all they had. $17.50 a box for federal speed shok 2's. 12 boxes of those and at the end of the day I had 1/2 a box left. we ended up with 212 geese for the day.

I'm craving the day I enter the shotgun/coyote club :)

That was a bad deal for about three days, arms hurt, shoulders hurt, the worst was my stomach! Never did so many sit ups (laying in ground blinds)
in my life :? :?

My buddie damaged his collar bone trying to soot behind him, (laying down) and still has problems with it today.

The best part of the trip was, the young boys stayed over night in the feild(inclosed trailer) so they didn't have to pick up decoyes. (they had 45-50 dozen full bodies) Hard core goose hunters you would say. But they hunted the next day and wanted to keep all the geese for a good picture, so the next day when they came home they forgot to call me for the cleaning event, and I never touch a damn bird :D :D :D
