.17 HMR?

Post by powellk »

Good Morning!
I have a question about the .17 HMR. My father-in-law has one and hates it. He says it is only good for shooting pigeons off of pump jacks. I have a cousin that swears by it for hunting coyotes? I personally don't own one, but would like to know some opinions on this round.

Well that is what he says too....I personally shoot a Rem. 700 .223 and love it. The bull barrel is heavy, but I like it. Off for 7 days now, can't wait to get out there and use it. Thanks!

I agree with you on that, I shot my father-in-laws and I think I have shot pellet guns that had more power than that. I stick with my .223 ,the prairie dogs and coyotes. Just as I thought, my cousin is full of it.

I ,like the 17HMR
It has to do where you live , what range is your avg. shot , and shot placement. and game you are persuing.
I use the 17 HMR for Ground hog, Fox Now as far as The Eastern Coyote I only use the 223 but my shots are within 250Yrds.
It is, What it is.

I hunt coyote with .223 and prefer that calliber.
I have a savage in 17HMR, but only like it for smaller critters.
The round can be effective against fox or coyote but I just don't recomend it.
Just my opinion.
