new to coyote hunting in ND

I've hunted coyotes in WA state and they have the cover of sagebrush and rock formations to us when they come into a call. They primarily come running to a cotton tail in distress and woodpecker distress. I need some advice on what the coyotes in ND come running to and what do I need to look for in a set up position? Also do they come across open fields or do they normally tend to skirt fence lines and scrub pockets? And what is the best time to call?
