Fur Price

Post by DOUBLE LUNG »

Talked to some guys that sold around here last week. They got $5.00 across the board. For the coon, coyotes and fox that they sold in the round. The sad thing is that they had nice fur. Hopefully this feburary auction turns things around or I might be holding onto my fur until it does.

I just sold my furs today but decided to do it a little different.. With the low prices and low temps (don't have a good heater for shed yet) i took out the coyotes with mange or bad rubbs on back of neck and a few that got hammered by a 243 and the rest that where just skinned and a half dozen still in carcass and took those to the buyer. The skinned hides where froze so i told him just thaw them out and send a check when he gets them graded. The fur buyer said he would put them up and then grade them and send me a check, he said it should increase my avr. and he would'nt loose any money on the bad ones. so its a win- win for both. I also kept the fur in two lots, lot one are all shot by the 17 cal and lot #2 by a larger cal.'s

Was on the way home yesterday from two days in NoDak and went by Beadles Fur Trading north of Aberdeen.Always get a kick out of their sign-"EAt Steak,Wear Fur,Keep Your Guns,Salute The Flag".Anyway I had six fresh Coyotes in the back so stopped in.He gave me $10 for one;5.50 for two and 2 bucks for a 4th.Said I could 'leave'the two small females but wouldn't pay anything for them.I loaded em back up and took em home.
I did mention I had about a dozen more at home and he said,'well bring em in soon,we aren't buying after next week'.
I'll haul mine to Mn like I normally do instead but the 'next week' comment may apply to other buyers.Just a heads up. :(

Hey Dcoy i am assuning those were on the caracass??? Also when were the coyotes shot??? Just curious if these were rubbed, had any big holes (shot in the back), or were dark coyotes?? My hats off to you for all the hardwork you put into this sport this past season to better yourself!!!! Trust me it will pay off in the near future if you keep at it

They were all pretty recent,on the carcass, pretty good holes in some,a few 'darks'but mostly lights.Majority definitely rubbed a bit.Based on what I've heard, seen, and experienced in earlier sales this year,I think very fair.

I just got back from selling the second batch of coyotes..Like i mentioned in a earlier post i sold the coyotes in two seprate groups. The ones shot by me with the 17 Pred. and the ones shot by crew members with the big guns. The crew had twice the number of coyotes compared to me but i made almost as much money as them. ( i was short 20.00) :(

With all the furs combined together we got a 10.00 Avr. with almost half bringing 18.00 tops.. Most of the hides where sold green and a handfull on the carcass.
We where charged 6.00 for processing per hide..

My S.D. coyotes avr. 20.00 with a tops of 25.00 and also sold green....

Scott J. told me if he could send the furs in to be put up and then have him grade them it would bring up my avr. cause he could see what i had. Its hard to grade the hides when they where still frozen up in a ball or just laying there thawed out..Best way to grade them is after they are dried and when done this way both partys willbe happy.. Hopefully this summer i can get a decent heater in my fur shed so i can put up my S.D. coyotes..

I just can't beilieve that scott is willing to pay that much for coyotes this year  Levi and i averaged 10.50 with tops of 15 on our western north dakota coyotes :( and these were all put up!! Well i would have to say you did really well!! I might have to keep scott in mind for future sales. I think i might get into the habit of packing up my furs and walking
