I have those military ones too. Mine are stamped with the year 1978. Is that the year they were made?
I couldn't find rubber bindings but I got some Faber bindings at Cabela's and I think they will fit the bill. Here the ones I got. I am going to try them out on Wednesday.

Im guessing that would be the year of manufacture. I should look on mine, they were "procured" from a military warehouse.
Being military does have its perks!
Those bindings look like theyd work alot better than the military bindings. They just took to dang long to get on/off with the military bindings.

For the guys with the aluminum snow shoes i'll let you in on a little secrete.. When walking in crusted snow you do get a little what i call tinny sound from walking on crusted snow.. What i did was buy a can of plastic speed dipp, comes in all sorts of colors. Take the plastic speed dipp and give the exsposed aluminum tubeing a few heavey coats. This stuff will deaden the tinny sound you get when walking... here is a pic of my aluminum shoes along side my wooden shoes with rubber webbing, the aluminum shoes have already been treated with the plastic dipp.

I like the speed dip idea I was also thinking about drilling two holes in the frame and filling the tubes with spray foam.
Optimax brought up the idea of spraying the bottoms with contact cement(similar) to the speed dip.
Hesitant to spray crap on my $200 shoes.....

I dont know what you guys are complaining about, crusty snow is gonna be noisy pretty much any way you look at it. My old wooden bearpaws are about as quiet as they come, and their still noisy on the right snow conditions. You just deal with it.
I thought the sounds from the aluminum ones you guys were talking about was from the shoes themselves, squeeking and creaking. If its just the snow making the noise, im not gonna worry about it to much.
