Woke up this morning to about 7 inches of snow and the forecast for the next three days is another 12 inches. Of course, I caused this weather change. I just took off the studded tires on my pick up, and put the chains away. At least ND can expect some more snow unless it turns south. Have fun everyone east of here.

Another day of snow. So far today we got another 6 to 7 inches of snow, and by the online weather, we are suppose to get 5 to 6 inches tonight, and more tomorrow. Had to dig my way out of the driveway to get the mail and by time I got back, I had a two foot drift. Got stuck twice before I gave up and started clearing the drift. Was about half way through when the snow plow came down the road and buried the back end of my pickup. Just got done cleaning that berm out but already have about an inch to an inch and a half. Any more and I'm going to build an igloo.

Sorry can't help. One of my dogs is in Washington looking for a bail out.I lined up and sent the other for a 'dummy' yesterday and haven't seen him since.Did have a phone message from a hunting buddy though saying my dog was there and kept pulling on his sleeve.
Mountainman, what State you in?I see Montana appears to be getting some.

Its going to take more than two bailout dogs. We got another 16 inches and a strong north wind. Everything (and I mean everything) was closed down all day yesterday and most of today. If I can figure out how to upload a picture taken from my front porch I will do so. If you have a map of Montana, here are the highways that were shut down. US highway 2 - closed from Marias Pass (Continental Divide) to Chester, MT (~100 miles west to east), I-15 - Closed from the Canadian Border to Great Falls (~120 miles), State Highway 89 - Closed from Babb to Fairfield (~ 130 miles), State Highway 44 (Goes through Valier where I live) closed on both sides of Valier. Finally got plowed out today so now I will be able to go to Cutbank and get my rifle at the gunsmith's.

Does your run off end up in the Missouri River?I mean eventually of course.Assume it does through assorted drainages to Three Forks?
I ask cause the Missouri here is already high.

First Question: Except for three separate blizzards, it hasn't been too bad of a winter. Haven't seen much evidence of deer kill (except along the highways). I have seen several large herds of deer, but there isn't many elk herds around my hunting spots. They are further the west of me, nor have I heard any comments about survival.
Second Question: All of the waters around here flow into the Marias River, which in turns empties into the Missouri. In fact, seeing that the headwaters of the Missouri starts in Montana, I would say that 95% of the waters east of the Divide empty into the Missouri. Luckily, most of the snow that we get around here doesn't contain as much water as in the western portion (on the west side of the Divide) and the southern part of the state. Being about 40 miles east of the divide, the area is fairly dry and if we get a storm, it usually comes down from Canada. Still it takes 8 to 10 inches of snow to get an inch of water, so it is a dry snow. A lot more drifting with less wind.
