i was driving down the hiway yesterday about 5pm and noticed some crows flocking along the railroad tracks that parallel the hiway. i assumed there was a carcass there but when i went by there was none, just a mound of grass. came back about an hour later and they were still there. they were jumping up and down and flapping there wings. looked really odd. i was there again this morning but no crows. passed it again about 5pm and they were there again. i went up a mile and turned around and parked about 400 yards away and watched through my bino's.they were jumping into this grass/dirt mound and really digging in. it looked they were dusting them selves. i finally drove up and they spooked off. i walked over to the mound and it was an ant mound!!!! thousands of ants swarming about. i dont think the crows were eating them or at least it did'nt look like it through my bino's. never seen nothing like it. there were about 8-10 crows in all. anybody else seen this behavior????

I would like to see a pic of the mound. Seems odd.

The crows maybe infested with lice or other peracites and are useing the ants to remove them...

i'll be going that way on tues. wed. i'll bring a camera and take a few. i did go by it today but there were no crows on it. Tim, by the way they were acting you may have something there. the ones jumping in the mound were kinda ruffled/puffed upand were doing some strange contortions

It sounds like they maybe where breeding then, just like black birds...

no, they were wallowing in the mound. they were actually a grayish color. definatly dusting in the dirt. maybe they breed dirty???? the ant's were a smallish purple color. the mound was about 2ftx2ft.. i'll try to get pic's this week if i go that way.. what kind of parisited would a crow have????

i drove by today and there were about 30 crows in and around the mound. will try for some pics tomarro

been by there 8 more times, early morning and between 3-5 pm and heve not seen them back
