I got a pick-up topper spotted and will get it in a few days.. I'm planning to rough it this year to keep down exspenses so i can hunt longer and willbe liveing out of my pick-up..
Are there any camp heaters that are safe that someone may recomend??
Has anyone used a Coleman sportcat heater??

Tim, i bought one from home depot that is propane and mounts on the wall. it'e thermosatically controlled and has an automatic shutoff if the oxygen in the camper gets to low. (safty feature). i think it was 170.00$$ it's totally sient and works awesome. can't remember the brand name.

I learned by camping under a topper that sleeping through the night is #1-- So the objective I arrived at was never leave the sleeping bag, no matter how cold. Heating in cold weather can end up being a bit of work/ doodling around. Our set up was candles in coffee cans (so the windows didn't frost up, decent & quiet heat source), a small LP tank & hose with iron burner for quick AM heat up/cook coffee & oatmeal, a Coleman white gas lantern for pre-sleep heat & light, a big Gatorade bottle to whiz into.

Also like BnB's idea. Better ice fishing forums probably on cutting edge with heaters.

Tim be careful with enclosed areas and non vented heaters don't need to be hearing about you on the news. Why not look for a used camper to slide in the back of your truck? These come with vented heaters and are safer than enclosed ones? The camper market is down and would make life more enjoyable than the steel bed of a truck?

We did that for a few years deer hutning sucked to get a good nights sleep, we even made bunk beds with 2x10"s going across the box rail so 3 guys on the bed and 3 guys above worked but we went and bought an old coachman camper much better and alot better sleep.

I don't have the cash for a good camper so i went with just a topper. I used to icefish with my Dad for years and spend a week at a time in a fish house, the main thing is keep one window cracked open.. I plan on useing a cot to sleep on with a padd and a artic sleeping bag. I plan on just getting things nice and warm and once in the bag i'll turn the heat down to where it will keep things comfortable...I may have time next week to look at some heaters.. Thanks

I just picked up a Mr. Heater Big buddy that puts out 18,000 BTU's and comes with all the safety devices built in so i'm good to go.. I also ordered a hose and conection kit so i can hook it to a larger tank like whats used for gas grills... Still looking for a sleeping cott..

don't forget to get a battery powered CO detector for safety sake.. I use one in my portables out ice fishing they work slick and are a good pieces of mind.
