Have not posted in a while, but I figured I would recount the days events from yesterday.. Made it our for a half day of calling 12-30-dark and had some decent success.. heres the recount of events
..
headed out from the house at ten to martys job site to grab the Fury and the 22-250. after picking up the gear My dad And I made the drive to a new area I have been calling, its got good coyote numbers and im just starting to get it figured out..
1st stand settle down in a big pasture (my fav) and hot a female inv. howl.. Get 4 responses way out.. call for 20 minutes with no takers.. alright, ill head toward those howls, 300 yards later im sitting on a knoll overlooking a big basin
, I pic up the binos and 1-- 2--- 3 there are all three dogs way out.. I hit the secret sound and they really dont care.. but after some enticing I call the a big old male to 300 yards.. he will come no closer.. I flop on my belly and zero the scope.. no wind clear condition, I hit him in the throat facing me.. dead right there..
I had to strip some layers off while retreiving him, man was I sweating.

After a few dry stand I head over to a cattle ranch I have permission on, we talk to the farmer and he lets us sneak out the back side of his cows.. cows = coyotes right now.. I look threw the binos and 1 - 2- 3- 4, 4 dogs wayy out lounging. I get settled in and a coyote starts chewing me out with a warning bark, I never saw him below us.. DANGIT!!. I let everything settle down and I try a lonesome howl on the handcall ( the fury stopped working! ) I get a solid response to my west and He sounds like he is getting close. After 20 minutes with nothing showing I pick up the binos one last time and spot him!. I do a quick burst of rabbit and he sprints in! sweet. at 450 yards he stops.. he will come no closer , i tried it all.. I decide to BELLY CRAWL 50 yards to some brush and try a 400 yard shot.. after 15 minutes of crawling Im 400 out. I flip out the bi-pod and take my aim, making up for some wind.. BOOM...... . . . WHOP. I nail him a bit low were his front leg meets his body. He runs over the hill in baddd shape.
Ok time to track!!. I hit the blood trail and it leads to a snowed in bulberry bush.. he is in there. this bush was a series of tunnels, I was forced to crawl in head first, after this coyote.. I round a corner in the tunnel system and am greeted by his teeth. 5 yards from me snarling. I manage to get my gun out in front of me and give him his last breath. He was pissed!!
After a long drag Im back at the truck.. 2 dog half day.. not bad..

meeting the buyer in wednesday to sell 40 more dogs. I need a skinning shed with heat!!!
