What does everyone do with there carcasses? I know there are several ways people dispose of them, but I want to know how you do it. I have a large outdoor wood boiler that i was going to throw some carcasses in this fall to see how it does at turning them into ash. I also have an option of buying an incinerator (sp) from a neighbor and use that. I have also been doing a fair amount of research on how to decompose animal carcasses in a compost pile. The compost would work great for gardens and flower beds.

My Father-in-law owns and runs hog barns in southern MN and he uses either chicken menure or turkey menure for composting. The finished result is unreal. Except for the bones it does a great job and he doesn't have to pay for the rendering truck to pick up his deads.

I just ask a rancher to put them in their dead pile. Or find a rock pile that a farmer is ok with me putting them on.

I have two vacant farm sites I take them to and by the end of the summer you can hardly tell I put them there except for a few peices of bone.
I would'nt put them in a wood burner, it takes quit a bit to get them cooked down to ash's and may just plug it up or make a mess , and the smell is'nt the greatest also.

Tim i plan on putting them in an outdoor wood boiler. The few people that i know have tried this, said that coon burn great in there. No on has mentioned any other animals yet. They say the coon fat burns really hot. Everything is outside, and the top of the chimney is 14' off of the ground. I plan on burning the carcasses when i use my snow melt, that way the unit is burning hard to maintain water temp.

I have burned up a few skunks and a dog on a big wood pile and you end up with the carcass that is black as coal and hard and if you hit it with a stick it still don't break down into ashes, but maybe if you keep a fire under it long enough it will.. Just saying is all.. As for the smell I was worried more about youre neighbors.

I would consider finding a good spot to snare or put traps and get a good pile going in your area Chris. One carcass per trap set is also a good idea if you have somewhere to keep them until fall. Otherwise any rockpile that you can get permission is fine. Burning them just sounds like a lot of work. Also some of your carcasses could be chunked and melted down for bait.

Thats what I do, lay them out near where I trap. The birds and varmits clean them up. Once in a while I see where maybe a young coyote will chew on the bones or ect, the next fall-winter.

A number of years ago a couple friends burnt skunk carcasses in a wood burner as the skinned them and they burnt rather well; but they weren't very popular in town. Stunk a half mile away! They still have it brought to their attention some twenty years later! Harold

a buddy of mine is a fur buyer and he burns all the coon carcasses in his wood burner. heats his whole shop that way. but a skunk????? hope he took out the essence first

My town stinks, it is nasty bad, smells like chickens something terrible. It could be a rendering plant burning chickens, or it is the 3 million chicken factory 3 miles s of town. This town sucks bad!!!
