probably depends on if they are around farms or ranches where they are use to it, it might workand most likely how far from waterand food supply, we have alot of hay stacks here i have never seen a coyote den in one, seen alot of bobcats but not coyotes, i walked up on a den last year , the pups were just starting to come out, the next day all the pups were gone
