how far from road

I am going to hunt ND badlands this winter and am wanting to know if you guys have better luck getting away from road 1/4 mile or more or just trying to run and gun and hit as many spots as possible?

Get as far off of the road as your legs will carry keeping in mind that you should try to get a lot of stands in but everyone is calling now so calling close to the road is a NO NO. I would on average out in that area get 8 stands in a day.
