22-250 Vs .243

Hey Guys
New to the list and this is my first post so I guess a hello is in order. HELLO!!! Anyway. I have been useing a AR-15 with iron sights to shoot dogs for the last two years and have had good luck with it. I have however been looking to upgrade to something with a little more reach. I have been wanting to get a 22-250 single shot / break open. I have looked at the Rossi and I like it. My older brother thinks I should get a .243. I don't do any other kind of hunting other then coyote so I am not inclined to need anything else caliber wise. I would be greatfull for any input. Thanks in advance!

I used to shoot a 223 and shot my farthest coyote at 525 yds and a few over 400 still have it, but went to the 22-250 for a bit more distance and wind tolerance. Alot of guys love the 243 my son has one but still uses his 223 on coyotes. The reason I shoot the 223 and 22-250 is I can see the hit in my scope with little recoil. The 243 makes me loose my target and if you ever hunt night the blast from it will blind you

Just my thoughts. And I also had a single shot. But I like a faster follow up shot, and another and another

I have been very happy with my AR. Its actually a Vietnam era XM177 E1. I dont shoot at anything over 150 yards with it. Its short and a perfect truck gun but it lacks the long range capability for the dogs that hold up at 200 to 300 yards. I am lucky that I have a few areas that I can hunt here that don't get overcalled so I have had really good luck getting em in close. Two less than 10 feet this year before shooting them. Obviously they were younger dogs but they still came in.

I shoot a .243 and love it! A single shot would make me nervous, you never know when you need that follow up shot, or you call in a heard of coyotes!!!!

Sure you can just maybe not in the classic

I don't think coyotehunter would like sewing up holes the size of coffe cans

He has a caliber limit anyways right. Like no bigger than 6mm.

.24 caliber is the biggest caliber that can be used!

I have been using a .243 for the last 8 years. It definately knocks them down but fur damage is a problem, unless you get a head on shot, have been trying to work up some loads that are a little more friendly.
