Some of you may have read the article in the Trapper Predato Caller magazine about this young man, his name is Derek Lonneman. I am proud to say he is my great nephew, but even prouder that he is and will be an avid outdoorsman etc. His father Ken is a DNR officer in Iowa and has always had time to take him hunting, fishing ,and trapping.

Everytime i would see Derek he would always want to talk trapping and fellas he can talk trapping. He is very polite and attentive when it comes to trapping, he asks intelligent questions way beyond his years. Trapping is growing older every year, my sons are pro trapping but it's important to teach or mentor as many of todays youth to be protrapping. It doesn't mean they have to actually set traps but understand why and how we trap. I will paste a few of his pics, I asked him if it would be OK to post a few of his pics so he could become famous!!!!LOL

As you can see he gets right in there, it's not a dad sets the traps and does all the work deal at all.

Randy, that is a nice story and pictures. I wish I would have had someone to show me the ropes when I was growing up. You can bet that when he grows up, he will be a well rounded , polite , and a person you would want to be around. Always nice to see someone spending time with their kids. They grow up in a hurry. I have a step-Grandson showing a lot of interest in the out doors and looking forward to getting him involved in outdoor sports.

Thats great Randy. Hey you should see if he wants to come up here to ND and maybe teach me a few things. Nothin better than a kid enjoying the outdoors.
