Finally got a break from calving heifers and the weather yestterday afternoon so I went out and made three stands. The first stand, I snuck in on a yote about 1/4 mile out. I snuck ina s close as I could and watched with my binocs for about 5 min and tried to squeek him in with no response. Next I took out my custom by me howler and through out an interrogation howl and got a nice lone howl answer back. I asnswered back with a lone howl and got him coming my way. He came in to about 250 yards(just a guess, as I don't own arange finder) sat down and howled again. This went on for about 5 minutes, he'ld howl I'ld howl. This is where I completely blew the whole deal. Instead of trying to challenge him at this point,I looked on my lanyard and saw that I had my trusty old Dan Thompson Weems Cotton Tail call. Now, people around my part of Wyoming have been telling me not to use distress calls during mating and denning seasons. I now know the reason why they say that. I no more than got started real light and soft so as not to spook him out of the country, when Mr Coyote took out of there on a dead run headed for freakin Canada.
Needless to say my next 2 stands did not produce another oppurtunity. If any of you guys up north see a yote going past at full speed, don't use your Dan Thompson Weems Call. It scares the living crap out of him!!!!!!
