'Golden Years'

OK,here's the gospel according to Decoy.Never ever forget that the 'Golden Years' concept is total BS.Its pure propaganda from society to hoodwink you into working too long,saving time/money for a rainy day,being 'responsible',deferring or delaying hunting trips or other things you'd like to do,and so on.
Don't fall for it.Do things now.Go for it.F those that preach the BS to you.Wait and be sorry or wait and be unable to do the things you've dreamt about.
Here's just another example of the 'golden years'.I return from Canada and have a message from a neighbor regarding a 'den' and a 'bunch' of pups(near adults now)he wants me to shoot.I call him and he describes the spot-which I know well.I know I can sneak in to a fence corner in the dark and have about a 200 yd downwind shot across water to the den when it gets light.Sweet!Well this morning I'm 'there' and at dawn so are they.Four 'pups' and an adult.Its initially hard to see(I've had a retina detachment in both eyes over the years)and I decide to wait a few minutes for more light before commencing to eradicate them all.(I figure drill the adult and the 'pups' will mill around in confusion while I pick them all off-been there-done that)
Then they 'play'their way around a hill so I wait knowing they'll be back.I know the sun will be sort of in my eyes and slide down the fence 40 yds or so to make sure its not gonna be directly in my eyes.
Well nothing.With a growing concern about the sun,I pull out the Zepps open reed and squeal a few times.Bingo here they come around the hill.ALL of them sit down around the den and stare my way.I swing over slowly to take out the adult and...and...GLARE.JUST GLARE.A near total black out of vision.Then I realize the growing cataract in my right eye is doing the classic cataract thing and blurring out in sunlight.OK,no sweat,I'll close that eye and go left eye.Thats when I discover I apparently have a developing cataract in that eye now as well.Rather than take a guess shot.I give the coyotes-and the coyote Gods-the finger and walk out til another day.
Now my cataract surgury set for September will apparently be on both eyes.Great.Just F ing great.
Do it now fellows don't wait for those 'golden years'.

A sentimental bunch of symetrical maybes.You're confused thats all.Both my eyes would be very satisfied with 'seeing'.As will yours someday.

that sucks!!!. i've been very fortunate to have good health my whole life other than being a (few) pounds over-weight but i'm working on that. haveing impaired vision would be the last thing on my list. i'm trying to line up a quadrapalegic for a bear hunt this year he wants to go so bad so i took the last couple days off and did some scouting to see if i can acsess some bait sites with special equimp. good luck on the eyes.

Sorry to hear about the eye problems again Decoy!! Everytime someone asks me why i hunt so much, i always tell them that it is a lot easier to do when i am young and you never know what tommorrow will bring so live it up now! I really hope the surgery goes well fella

You are not kidding. The entire "do it now" attitude is a must. I know that my hunting life is going to come to a close quicker that the average guy because I wear a prosthetic leg and someday, will hunt from a wheelchair. My opposite leg/hip is already showing the aches and pains of the extra burden you cant help but put on it when the other is a prosthetic.

Gone will soon enough will be that days of putting on miles and making stands and my coyote hunting will be from the edge of the road or out the truck window but ONLY after the closest stand to the road is too far. Now I just gotta get out elk hunting at least one time before that wheelchair thing happens.

I am 41 and figure I got maybe 15-20 years left before that day comes.

On a good note, My deposit is paid and I got me and me homey on the waitlist for a spot a the Classic this year so beware the fat, one-legged hippy with the 1 1/2 ft pony tail. He cant shoot straight or call coyotes worth a damn, but he'll drink all your beer!

I doubt Solomon would disagree with the 'GY concept'. He goes further to suggest that everything under the sun is meaningless, including "chasing after the wind". I don't disagree. Who in his right mind would?
