too much grain?

so i went out to the range today and i was having trouble getting the caseing out of the chamber after every shot. i thought was the ammo i was using was 180gr. and maybe it was to much and the casing was expanding and getting stuck. has this happend to anyone else. if i diden't fire the weapon then the action would never get stuck it only happend after i would shoot. could to much grain damage my barrel? 30-06 factory ammo, savage 111 rifle. thanks for any input.

Without seeing the fired cases, it's difficult to tell what the exact cause of this problem is. It shouldn't be an issue with the bullet weight as 180 grain is considered an "average" bullet weight for 30-06. It sounds like over-pressure issues if the cases are sticking in the chamber. The other cause would be an extractor problem, but if the unfired cases are being extracted without issue, it shouldn't be the cause of this problem. Factory loaded ammunition tends to be backed-off from the safe maximums to prevent over-pressurizing as more of a safety and liability issue. It seems odd that factory loads would cause problems. Have you noticed any pressure signs on the fired brass such as cratered or flattened primers, extractor makes on the case head, or a shiney spot on the case head?

Maybe start simple...... Clean your gun chamber............ Maybe there is to much crap in the chamber and you normal expansion is causing issues, start simple........

When you close the bolt and chamber the bullet , if it seems hard to close , you probably are jamming the bullet up into the lands and causing a lot of pressure. Just a thought. Usually in factory loads the oal. is within tolerances though.
