Good Weekend

Post by DustyC »

This weekend another member of Coyotehunter.net and I got a chance to hunt a tournament for the first time as a team. Its a 2 day tourna ment that draws about 10 to 15 teams. Not to big and not to small just kind of a home town feel. I'll get on with it and tell you how it went. 1st place 11 coyotes Redland and Lozier, 2nd place 6 coyotes and I forgot there names, Third place 5 coyotes DustC and Rorycoyote. Heres how our weekend went. We started off by driving an hour and 1/2 to a spot where I used to work on a ranch. It was a little before 7am and we decided to make a stand without locating. We sat ther about 15 minutes with no response and decided toget back to the game plan and went and loctated. From the truck we only heard one coyte howl about a mile off. We went back towards him amile and made a stand. I called for about 2 series and we had one coming in. Hestopped at about 200yards and kept looking back. I couldn't see the 2 other coyotes coming but it scared the first on off so I took a running shot and missed. When I looked back I saw 2 more coming in really hard. They got in to about 100 yds and I tried to stop them. THEY FLAT WOULDN"T STOP!!!! The lead coyote came up the hill where I was laying prone and got to 5 ft. he would barely scare off when I got on my knees to make him run off so I took a shot from the hip that grazed him. Rory finished that one for us at about 150 yds. The second one ran off so I got back on the call and he came flying back in and thats when we lost our minds and about 15 rounds of ammunition between us. Rory finally hit him and caught both front legs. We had to track him for about a mile amd I finished him off with the shotgun.( Thats a whole nother story in it self  ) We located again and found some mor coyotes. We drove about three miles to get position and about 10 minutes into it one came in and stopped infront of me at 126 yds. Bang Flop. :D Got back on the call and about 5 minutes later when we were getting ready to go here comes anther. I called him into 120 yds in front of my partner and, Bang no flop. Next stand we had three that just were not interested at all. We took abrake amd went to the store because I was about out of Copenhagen. ( Thats a horrible thing.) We went back up the mountain and made a stand that was just beautiful. I called for about 10 minutes and we had another hard charger coming in. He wouldn't stop either!!!! I took a50 yd running shot and caught a front leg with rory shooting right behind me to finish the deal. That was about the end of the first day. The second day we drove to some new country and located the whole way in 1st stand nothing 2nd stand we walked in and had 2 howling and then a third came in from behind us and warned the whole country tah we were there. Drove back down and on our third stand rory called one into 200 yds and I drilled him. Started working our way back and had one coming in that I thought rory could see. I quit calling anstarted lip squeeking, rory didn't see him and started calling and he locked down at 294 yards and I missed. To make along story short we only got one that day. But still a good weekend.

Mitch you hit it right on the head. A lot of people wanna know why you shoot so many coyotes and well one of the things that is seprating them from you is your ability to shoot. Keep shooting straight fella and the coyotes will keep piling up for you :D

dont worry about the boot leather we used plenty of that. as for the missing we dont have as many coyotes to practice at. maybe also because every day i can escape work i go hunting instead of checking where my rifle is hitting on paper. it turned out to be a good weekend even with the misses. the misses leave more to talk about at the end of the day.lol.

Way to go gentlemen!!!! Sounds like a shotgun on stand would have helped with the hard chargers!!! LOLOL thats always enough to make you eyes like saucers. Good work and keep it up.
