Is an e-caller worth the $400

Post by devildogg »

Need a little help here, been hashn this one over in my head for a while. And my partner is sick of hearing me talk about it too. Is an ecaller worth it do they work any better at calln than hand calls. Can anyone honestly say they have called in more coyotes with elec. vs. hand calls or is it something i will buy and wish i had my $400 back. I guess im just lookn for someone to twist my arm a little and talk me into it.

IMO.....no.

If I had to pay retail for one, I wouldnt own one myself. Ive had one for 5-6 years now, and this year is the most ive ever used it, its been out 4 times this year.

Theres only three things I like em for.

"Novelty sounds". The stuff thats hard, or impossible to do with a mouth call. But, I also think the sound you make is often the least important aspect of coyote hunting. Hunting the terrain and conditions properly is far more important. If they smell you, see you, hear you, it doesn't matter what sound you make, their not likely to come in.

Remote operation. In tighter cover it is handy to be able to get away from the sound, but not a necessity.

Volume. For windy days. I don't know of a mouth call that can match the volume of a cranked up foxpros cone speaker pointed right at a piece of cover.

Another thing to look at is how much do you hunt? Theres guys that only hunt coyotes after all the other seasons are closed. They may hunt two weekends at best. Or, if your like me, your hunting for two months or more at every available moment.

They have pros and cons. I call in 85% of my coyotes with a hand call but do use a e-caller for certain situations.

With as much calling as you two do i would each throw in 200 hundred and get one.

Its maken me lazy, Easily 100+ kills under our foxpros belt this year.. Worth its weight in gold IMO.. Sooooo many dogs we could have never picked up without some of the sounds on there. also many doubles, triples, and quads we would have never gotten without it. I love it.

Ok so im going to get into one. I found an FX 3 for $300 what are some of the better sounds to put on it. I'll understand if you wont tell your secret sounds (mitch) but just some other ones in general that you guys are having luck with. i've always done pretty good with my hand calls but there have been times that i should have would have and could have killed a couple more had i had the caller sitting 50yd or so from me. And i could have had a couple of bobcats down in texas the last two years if i would have had a caller sitting away from me. so its time to bight the bullet.

how many sounds does that unit hold??? I would get my hands on as many coyote vocalizations as possible and maybe a couple distresses in there. Just make sure that you do not select a .24b sound as it wont play on your fx-3. Those sounds only play on the fury and cs-24 and any other new caller they might have out.

Ordered the fx3 its on the way should be here tues. the 26 hope that its what its hyped up to be or its off to the swap shop. it holds 32 sounds chris. im not to crazy about the coyote vocalizations in the fox pro library though. i was hunting with daryl this fall and he had a wt i'll tell you what man that thing had some good sounds on it. it sounded so really i could feel the hair stand up on the back of my neck the first time he let loose with that thing. man i wish i would have had the money to pick up one of those but times are a little tight. if any one else is interested in a fox pro i got a refurb straight from the factory for 300 they told they had a few that had some scratches in the finish i love a good deal i had to heckle them down a little bit and they threw in a free charger with it so they seem to be pretty good people to deal with.
