Finally got enough open water between the mud and ice to set some beav traps today. Really wish it would warm up some.
Stood down my first ever charging beaver too. Thats a little unnerving having 40 lbs of beaver brush by your leg in a narrow little 3 foot deep run! I must have got between him and deep water.
In central minnesota, we are suppose to see a high of around 70 on wedensday I see some beaver trappers are just getting out themselves and some have been trapping for about a week so far.

Yeah, this weeks really gonna melt some ice by the sounds of it. They outta be moving hard, and fighting/rubbing hard too. Get after em while the gettings good!
I've had a couple traps out for about a week now, but had to pull them last Thursday because I wouldn't be around to check them over the weekend. Set two conis out yesterday, checking tomorrow.
Picked up 5 today, one had a small clipped area and another a small rub so ill be calling it a year on sunday.
This is how I set my legholds. Unlike most guys, I shoot for a front foot catch quite a bit, especially if I cant get into water over crotch deep for a good drown.
Heres my leghold setup. I use #3 or #5 legholds on a 15 foot adjustable cable slide and sandbags for weights. Try to get 35 lbs or more in the bag and stomp it into the bottom if I can.
The saying at the Fur Shed in Downer MN is "No beaver to big or too small we stretch them all" Great pics and keep them coming. Spring beaver trapping sure is a lot of fun!
