Re: 22-243win
Just for kicks i added a couple other guns. On top is a 1 in 8 twist 22-250 ackley in a pss stock. It has a ptg bolt body and a vortex viper 6 to 20. Under that is a 6br. It also has a ptg bolt body and a pss stock. Twist is 1in 8 and the scope is a lightseeker. On bottom is the 22-243.

very nice, i like the paint on the 700 P stock. the 22-243 looks like a very nice carry gun.

Re: 22-243win
Thanks. The heavy guns are for p.dogs and informal target work. I did shoot a few fox with the 22-250 ai last winter. They were lurking around the edges of the farm so let them have it. A 75 grain amax works fine on fox broadside. Shoot through them lenghtwise and about one fourth of the animal will disappear.

Re: 22-243win
so why did you put together a 22-243 if you already had a 22-250 AI? They should be pretty close to matching the same velocity given the same bullet. Granted the 22-243 will pull a little bit more velocity, but very close, saw within 200fps or so.

Re: 22-243win
Thought maybe 22-250 ai performance without having to fireform would be a good thing. I'm still undecided on that one. Also the 22-243 will do 22-250 ai velocities with slightly lower pressures. I've found myself wondering if high pressure is just a big of a factor in short barrel life as velocity is. I suspect the 22-250 ai does have a slight accuracy edge over the 22-243, but I'll need to work with a couple more barrels to be sure. These are just my own wild-assed opinions.I'm not going to push them on anyone else.

Either one is nice and it don't hurt to have a back-up that has simular ballistics. You may also find out the 22-243 canbe just as accurate as the 22-250 ackley....

Can't ever have too many guns is what i say although those do seem to be REAL close in calibers.

Re: 22-243win
You're right, they are very close performance wise. My situation is a little different than most guys in that I can do my own work. This allows me to experiment with different cartridges without going broke.A lot of people will argue that one round is superior to another due to subtle differences in case design. Some of it is nonsense and some isn't. I simply chamber a couple barrels and find out for myself. Target weight barrels can be rechambered several times due to their long shank. I have barrels that have been used for three different rounds. When I first started I worked with the 6mm rounds quite a bit. 243, 243ai, 6mm rem, 6mm rem ai, 6br, you get the point. These days I mostly play with the 22's. 222, 222 rem mag, 223, 223 ai, 22-250, 22-250 ai, etc. The equipment wasn't cheap but it keeps me out of the bar.

Re: 22-243win
leadb. speaking of a .222. i have one in a win 70. 1965 model i think. i don't know the round count but would'nt be suprised if its 10,000. the rifleing is worn slick as snot.
. can't really even see it. but it still shoots unbelievable

Re: 22-243win
I dont know bucks. I used to have a rem 788 in 222 that had pitting in the last 10 to 12 inches of the bore. With good handloads the damn thing would shoot under an inch with very little effort from me. It's like the 6br in that it's just a very easy round to live with.

Re: 22-243win
wouldent the 22-243 really be a 22-308 since the 243 is a necked down 308 just woundering sounds like a shooter

Re: 22-243win
MOA,
I suppose it could be. The 308 is the parent case. I think its called the 22-243 because it's easiest to make the brass out of the 243. Just a guess though.
have a good one

Re: 22-243win
By the way, if anybody cares, I talked to a smith a couple weeks back who's been building 22-243's on AR10's. I'm not really an AR kinda guy, but it would be an ass kicker.
