Hey man you will really like it.. I have been shooting a .243 tikka t3 hunter and I really love it.. Made a good amount of 400-450 yard shot with it consistently this season. Marty and I both shoot 60 gr. sierra HP's.. they are very fast, and dont tear a coyote up one bit..

Also they shoot extremely well. I love the gun.. Good luck

Mitch i've been shooting 69gr berger out of my other 243 and really like the results. very pelt friendly and flat shooting my load i am shooting is 41 gr. of varget for a muzzle vel. of aroud 3500 fps which is still pretty fast. At 300 yrds there is about half the wind drift compared to my 22-250 with a 10 mph cross wind. That is the bullet i would like to try out of my new gun had pretty good results it. If they dont shoot then ill give those sierras a try thanks for the post.

Here is an update on my new rifle fit and finsih is unbelavailable nathan dagley of straight shot gunsmithing did an outstanding job putting it all together it in all honesty looks like a factor made rifle. i followed the the breakin procedure that was recommended by the barrel manufacturer. then i bought some new brass and started to work up some loads for it. i came up with a load for some 75 gr vmax bullets loaded about 5 thousandths off the lands and with 42.7 grains of varget which is over max but i am not seeing any signs of pressure. this load shot really well 5 shots that can be covered with a dime at 100 yds and the best group was 4 shots in one hole and the 5th shot was an 1/8 away and breaking the paper it shoots really really good. probably better than what im capable of shooting. i chronographed the load and had an average with five shots of 3625fps the fastest was 3643 and the slowest was 3614. as of this morning i have made 5 sets with this rifle and it has killed four coyotes and only missed one which was shooter error i suck. pelt damage seemed minimal only one got blown he was playing peekaboo with me in the full moon the other night and pow right in the kisser. that pretty much sums it up.

What made you go from a .22-250 to a .243. What is the difference in pelt damage between the two calibers?

Hey bucs i only got to make 2 sets then it got foggy and i couldnt see but managed to get 2. there is so much snow now they are getting kind of hard to call in you have to get right on top of them. but in the full moon and in the middle of the night i just would drive down a road as far as i could until there was to much snow then hike up the road a half mile and called right from the road. when i seen the coyotes put on there bliners and hop up on the road and start coming my way they ended haveing a head on collision path on least resistance for them now. pelt damage between a 243 and a 22-250 depends on the bullet you choose to use and where you hit them. i have blown up a few with a 250 and and a 243. last year i tried some 69gr berger match varmints out of the 243 and had them shooting at around 3500fps and only had 2 thet were blown up they were on some odd angleing quartering shots the rest you would have a dime sized entrance hole sometimes smaller and no exit hole. with these 75gr vmax bullets this is the first time ive tried them but of the 4 coyotes i shot with them only one was blown up and that was hit in the face so you can see why that one got blown up. 2 were flat broadside and and one was running quartering away and only one of them had a very small exit hole the size of a 50 cent piece. but in my last post i said i had seen no sign of high pressure in the load im shooting (42.7gr of varget) and last night i was doing some shooting at my dads and blew a primer out of one of my cases and had marks from the extractor on 3 other cases so it looks like i have to start over and load down a little bit that is the first one i have had do that. :x and that sucks because i just loaded up 50 rounds for it the other night and they are shooting so good. any advice on that before i start blowing extractors.

yote the reason i built a 243 is that a 243 is an all aroud caliber i can have one gun and learn to shoot it like an extension of my body and hunt deer coyotes antelope. it is very flat shooting and has about half the wind drift as a 250. the reason i want to shoot a 75gr vax out of it is because of the velocity i can achieve out of it around 3600 fps and the bc on that bullet is .330 which seem to be the best of both worlds a bigger that is moving very fast and will buck the extremely well. so in a nut shell it is almost as flat a shooter as a 250 but it will buck the wind a lot better.

hey DevilDog. my manuals show a max load of 42 varget with a 70 grain bullet so yours is probably over max with 75's. if your gonna be in dickenson, i'll give you a few of my 70's if you wanna try them??. i hav'nt shot many coyotes yet with themyet so not sure of pelt damage yet. did shoot a 1.5 inch group at 296 yards

Im giving SERIOUS thought to having my .308 re-barreled to .260 Rem. 139 grain bullet pushed at 2900 fps looks to outperform my current .308 "go to" load in every department.

The more I look into it, the more it appeals to me. Could be a dynamite long range gun. Ive been in contact with Nathan on cost of this project. Anyone wanna float me a few hondo??? :D

that would be great bucks. a 260 would make a great long range caliber.

BBJ, what is your current "go to" .308 load. I have a trued up 700 with a 1/10 twist 26in krieger 5 contour barrel on it and am looking to find a good long range load for it. So far I have tried 168gr Matchkings and 155 Berger VLDs and 110gr Vmax and was wondering if you or any one else had any other suggestions. I know Xdeano uses ad .308 alot as well and maybe he will chime in. If not, thanks anyway. :D
