Here is a video of how i skin a coyote by hand. I usually peel them on the machine, but since most don't have one, i did it by hand. I know when levi and i are out calling and we skin one at that truck that is warm, it is less than 2 minutes from when the coyotes is hanging to when the pelt is off and the carcass is tossed. I had 4 cold coyotes brought to me the other day, and the guy wanted to watch me peel them by hand so he could learn how by watching, and i averaged 4 minutes a piece on them. If you guys have any ideas or thoughts/comments to add, please do so. I'm looking for anything that will speed this process up or make it easier.
If the video looks too small on your computer, feel free to hit that button on the bottom right of the video player and it will make it the full screen on your video. When you want to leave the full screen mode, just hit the "Esc" (Escape key) key and it will return back to normal.

Re: How to skin a coyote
Good vid. Chris..
I skin my fox and coon pretty much the same as you do in the vid. but with my coyotes I use the knife from nose to tail as I work the hide off.. My time is free so I don't try to set any speed records.. The reason I use the knife mostly is I can by-pass the fleshing board and go straight to the stretcher after the hides are washed and touch them up there as far as removeing little pieces of meat or a little fat.. Any way good vid. and thanks for shareing...

Re: How to skin a coyote
I think the best I did this year was eight in about an hour and a half. Trapped that day and skinned that night. From the first time I touched the knife till the last hide was off. 11.25 minutes a dog.

The coyote wasn't a warm one. It was caught that day though. Dispatched it in the morning around 8am and that evening it was skun around 10pm. The temps outside were around mid 30's that day and it laid in the back of the truck all day just like it would if you were out and about in the field calling.
BBJ - i wonder how long it would of taken me if i would have kept my mouth shut and didn't do any instructions
I might have to actually do a video of a pile of coyotes there and i just start peeling and time it from start to finish. Then again i need a pile of coyotes first
This one a day thing doesn't add up to a pile
Tim - my time has a little value to it, since i am starting to peel hides for some other people and put them up. I also usually have some help in the fur shed with another guy fleshing or stretching, so that helps a ton by the end of the night.

I was just raggin on ya Chris. 8 minutes is still pretty good considering all the jawjacking ya did.
