Brian: you are not the first guy this year to post all most the same thread/problem! Don't quit, period!!!!!!!! If you go back into the "general" forums or "coyote hunting" forums and go back and check out some of the responses and addvice.

First of all what do you consider alot of time??????

I do a ton a "blind" calling ( calling without locating or see them first) and that is what I like doing, so it works for me...

Stick to the basics and don't try to make things hard, pick some spots work the wind, get into stand unseen, and call, call, call, call and then do it over again........

Do some locating at night/daybreak, talk to land owners, and be observant. Don't give up and it will pay off!

i would say on an average day i put in a good 5 hours whether its before dark , midnight or just before daybreak done it all. My calling is a bit on the novice side. I do have the old jonny stewart tape call but i do have a newer js minni the sound is good as far as i know i am limited on money so i have to make due till after the wedding. As it stands right now i have one area that is a full mile and two other areas that are over 1000 acres i even found 2 deer on one section and set up about 150 yards out and still nothing

You don't need an expensive electric caller, I have never used an electric caller...... A couple of hand calls will do fine!

You can call coyotes all day long, there was a thread a couple of months ago on the "best time to call" and everybody had different times they did the best...... I think from 10:00am until 2:00pm was the best time for me this year, now next year night be different.

Your approch (sp) and set up is way more important than your calling sounds, sometimes you might think the sound you are blowing sounds strang, but that might be exactly what they what to come to.

This time of year is tricky, they are getting ready to den up, and mateing is getting done with, I don't know about this time of year, I just know its tough!

It comes down to this, You need a couple of good calls (or a e-caller) and rifle than will shoot true for you, you need some time to put into the calling, some land to hunt on, a coyote drag in your pocket at all times (because you will need it :) ) And a good attitude about being out there, and don't give up Keep trying, it might not happen until next hunting season or it might be happining right now............

I have to say this is the best thing i have ever got involved in . Thank you for all the advise i know soon i will have a dog hanging. I feel very good about my rifle i use a H&R .223 with hornady 55 grain. Alot of my friends who dont know any more than i do said i was crazy for getting a single shot but my father always said you only need one shot if you do it right. Wish there was a way to show you the area where i hunt so you can see the run that i found this winter. Is it true that in an area that is hunted with dogs on a regular basis is harder to call hunt than one that is not riddeled with dog runners?

anytime coyotes are ran with dogs, the calling gets dratically tougher. The only way i have found to get them in these situations is to either get after it starting october 1st and call the whole month of October, and or do full moon night calling if your state allows it. Also when you hunt a heavily wooded area, i have found it better to sit on stand sometimes up to an hour. They have a lot of obstacles to go through, over, and under to get to you. It just simply takes them longer. In the dakotas, sometimes you can draw a straight line from you to the dog. Just keep after it and before you know it, a coyote will be hanging in your shed :D Dont forget to use the search engine on the site and look through old posts. There is so much useful information on coyotehunter.net!!

If you have an area hunted with dogs the coyotes tend to avoid those areas and only travel through them to new ground. so try and hunt the areas around a very busy roads, interstates are very good, just have a buddy drop you off on the hwy and pick you up !! The hounds men will not run these areas its to risky and don't want dogs getting hit by cars and the coyote tend to love them and get used to the traffic :D

Thank you all for all your advice. This weekend I sat up in a diffrent area, it was an area that i looked at many times but never felt it would produce. Well i didnt get a shot but I did see 3 coyotes at 150 yards. They circled me and got my sent. The area was a small draw that is right in the middel of many feilds. I always sat up on the edge of the feild in hopes to pull them out of the draw. Saturday i sat up about 50 yards inside of the draw started calling and in about 10 min. i saw them sneeking through the brush right twards the down wind side of me. I was not able to take a clean shot but it got me hooked. Now i just need one hanging and i will be the happiest man alive. THANK YOU ALL!!

make sure that you take a few mental notes on everything that happened. Where they came from, wind direction that day, etc etc. Location is always key on calling coyotes. Keep taking notes and after you get the first one out of the way, the rest will come easier :D

It gets easier with every one you call in. Take good notes and reproduce what worked.
