a buddy called and said he heard a coyote howling close to his house out in the pasture. his dog went out there, (its a great pereness) and protective of his cattle. while he and the dog were out in the pasture he sas something came into his back yard and killed a bunch of chickens. this was in dayligh hours. will a pair of mated coyotes work in tandem that way. one decoy the dog while the other sneaks in the other way. . i said i think thats what happened but he's sceptical

Coyotes will work in a team formation on cattle and sheep, antelope, deer ect. One will keep mama busy while the other moves in for the kill. They are also well documented setting up ambushes or pushes where one get the prey moving and pushes it to one or two coyotes waiting at a pinch point or ambush site. With him present i would say it is unlikely but i never say never when dealing with coyotes.
